Q. What do I need to get and use eCrypt on my BlackBerry® smartphone?
A. You need a BlackBerry® wireless handheld, a BlackBerry data plan with internet access, and an active email account on your BlackBerry smartphone.
Q. I don't have an active email account on my BlackBerry® smartphone, how do I get one?
A. You can find detailed instructions here.
Alternatively, you can contact your Wireless Service Provider for information on setting up a BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) email account.
Q. Can I use Desktop Manager to install the software on my BlackBerry® smartphone?
A. No. eCrypt can only be installed by downloading it directly onto your handheld device (aka OTA or Over The Air).
Q. Do my contacts need eCrypt on their BlackBerry® devices as well?
A. Yes. both parties need the software.
Q. Can I use IMAP with eCrypt on my BlackBerry® device?
A. No. IMAP and eCrypt are not compatible. Using IMAP with eCrypt results in the mail server storing private emails in plaintext.
Q. Can my eCrypt encrypted messages be viewed on a desktop computer?
Yes, but all viewers will see is a bunch of scrambled characters. Because eCrypt is a true end-to-end and stand alone solution, only yours and your recipient's handheld devices can decrypt eCrypt secured messages.
Q. What is a Private Tunnel?
We use the term Private Tunnel to refer to the encrypted communication channel you establish with each contact.
Q. How is it Private?
A. It is Private because: messages sent via the Tunnel are secured against prying eyes; each Private Tunnel is unique from contact to contact; the software is true end-to-end and stand alone, so no IT Administrators, encryption servers, or secure service providers get in between you and your contact - we don't either!
Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, and PayPal.
